I paint urban landscapes from direct observation, from the photographs I take from the sites, and memory. I believe urban environments are reflecting the culture of its inhabitants and it differs so drastically from place to place. I tend to pick a scenery that is reminiscent of my Eastern European background and it might be my way of dealing with dislocation and finding a sense of a new place. But I hope that you will enjoy the paintings for your own reasons.

Through cataloging and organizing my private domestic space, ak industries lays bare my hopes and dreams, my self-doubt and empowered motivation, and my endeavors to make it as an artist. During a year away from home as artist-in-residence, this work charts the doodles and models that develop out of living alone in an unfamiliar place. As I sit in my little apartment, slightly lonely and bored, I have nothing to occupy my down time but organize my pantry and clean out my fridge. I display my constant struggle to do better and strive for more by hand writing motivations on a collection of found landscape photos. I dream of starting my own corporation and moving out of poverty by using the skills I have gained constructing custom cabinets. Living in a dump of a place, I dream of the modernist homes that I grew to love in school and start to reproduce them from various cereal, beer, and pizza packaging. The particulars of my day-to-day life begin to consume me and I let that minutiae become a portrait of my domestic self.

Featured Artists: Jonathan “Wakuda” Fischer & Eva Yuewang
Eva Yuewang: I have many fetching images coming from my head, and I don’t want to just see the pictures myself, so I attempt to express them in the paintings on my own to share. This is my motive to doing my art.
My theme is surreal. I am obsessed with the kind of feeling it evokes. It looks realistic but more imaginative than the real life, catching the subtle waves of humanity. The characters in my paintings have some paradoxically personality; be it sensitive yet indifferent, innocent yet ruthless, attractive yet unconfident.
Most of the influence in my art can be found in my cultural background. I grew up in China, and thus my outlook of world and its value is all informed by my country. Having spent time in the United States, I now see certain differences between the East and West. This is a phenomenon that I think it is very interesting and influential, and it will be reflected in my art.
