Featured Artist: Ryan Jones – Ink of Extinction

First a note on stolen land and conservation. Ink of Extinction wants to acknowledge that the land we are on and occupy is Indigenous Duwamish land. Furthermore, conservation means different things to different people, and many efforts of conservation are very colonized and capitalized. Many Indigenous conservation efforts are community based and need to be funded. Ink of Extinction partners with local indigenous conservation fronts and donates 50% of all sales to these efforts.
Ryan Jones is a local marine and conservation biologist. In this exhibition, Ryan uses hand carved linoleum and rubber plates to create impactful visual images of endangered species to engage the public and bring awareness to conservation and environmental terrorism. The color and life in his work pulls the viewer close and whippers a reminder that our actions influence the whole planet. Ryan’s prints are easy to be around and beautiful to look at, but spark conversation about heavier and uncomfortable things. You may also see Ryan around town this summer either working at Seattle ReCreative and their outreach programs, or at the Woodland Park Zoo where he will be a summer camp counselor. Featured Artist: Sarah Dove Chandler
Sarah Dove Chandler is an outdoor photographer from Issaquah, Washington. Her work focuses on both nature and lifestyle photography, although she does not limit herself to just these domains. Regardless of the subject matter, she aims to capture moments in their most authentic form. This is largely why she enjoys photographing natural scenes, where stage-setting and other manipulations are unnecessary. She extends this approach to her portraiture work as well by emphasizing candid captures over posed ones, often accompanying her clients into the outdoors and documenting their adventures.
